| The source text,Sovereignty of China over Paracel Islands(No.1931-FO-676-85)is a file of the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Documents on British Policy Overseas(DBPO).It consists of several dispatches from 1931 to 1933,in which the South China Sea islands disputes were discussed among the British Foreign Office officials.The author is responsible for the translation of the source text,and the report is written accordingly.The important function of the dispatches is to convey information efficiently.Therefore,the target text must be faithful to the source one,the information being translated accurately.Furthermore,the target text should be readable,so the same effect should be achieved as the original.Based on the above strategies,the author will analyse and resolve the difficulties in the process of translation in the report.There are many proper nouns in the text.The author has adopted the established popular names as much as possible in order to improve the accuracy and readability of the translation.As for the translating of the sentences,firstly,the author has tried best to accurately translate the information elements and the logic of the sentence;secondly,methods such as translation in the original order,translation in the reversal order,the method of division and restructuring,the method of explanation,the method of the voice change,and the integrated method have been used to increase the readability of the translation. |
