Symphonie fantastique is one of the masterpieces of French composer Berlioz's orchestral work.Music developing with program music,same theme repeat manlytimes in each movements with distinction and further discovery on symphony orchestra and enlarge the size of orchestra let the work become a landmark of nineteenth-century music.Berlioz affected by Beethoven's spirit that move classical idea to romantic idea make Symphony Orchestra become more huge and expressive,he use the low brass section to make specific music theme and effect:Put the Serpent and Ophicleide with Trombones as romantic symphony orchestra low brass section.This study discusses the character of tuba as follows:Use Tuba to play the melody or main theme;Use Tuba to expand the harmony in low register or emphasis the rhythm;Use Tuba play the independent motive.This study also compare the use of tuba in Symphonie fantastique with other composers in Romantic period.
