English vocabulary teaching has always been a difficult task to deal with in senior high.The teachers meet some problems when teaching English vocabulary,such as lacking systematic theories to base their teaching methods on,and scientific methods to give proper comments on the performances of the students efficiently.Besides,the students also have some problems such as lacking good learning methods and motivations.Production-oriented Approach(shorted as POA)is an advanced foreign language teaching theory proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang in recent years.Considering both its teaching concepts and teaching strategies can give some inspiration and directions to English vocabulary teaching in senior high,the author of this study attempts to address two problems after analyzing the theoretical system of POA and the current situation of English Vocabulary Teaching in senior high:(1)Can POA be applied to English vocabulary teaching in senior high,and can it promote the teaching?(2)Can a proper teaching model be constructed based on POA to advance the English vocabulary teaching in senior high?Firstly,this paper describes the development process and research status of POA and gives a brief introduction of POA.Then it analyzes the current situation of English vocabulary teaching in senior high,trying to find an effective way to solve the existing problems using POA.The researcher attempts to construct a new English vocabulary teaching model based on POA and apply it to the experiment.To test the feasibility of the teaching model,the researcher conducted an experimental study.Quantitative and qualitative researches are used during the research process.Three research methods are used including questionnaire,test and interview.The researcher uses the questionnaires to know about the students’ English vocabulary learning condition and teachers’ English vocabulary teaching condition before and after the experiment,and then the researcher makes a comparative analysis of the data collected to check whether the experimental research has a positive effect on English vocabulary teaching and learning.By using tests,the researcher intends to grasp the changes of the students’ English vocabulary levels before,during and after the experiment,in order to investigate whether the experiment can improve students’ English vocabulary levels.Interviews are used to understand the students’ problems in English vocabulary learning and the impact of the implementation of the experiment on their English vocabulary learning.The research results show that POA can promote the English vocabulary teaching in senior high.The newly-constructed teaching model can improve the teaching efficiency of teachers,let the students grasp better learning methods,and arouse the confidence of the students.To a great extent,this teaching model solves the existing problems in English vocabulary teaching and learning in senior high,which enables students to learn English vocabulary more scientifically and efficiently,enabling them to improve their English level.
