Along with the rapid development of economic globalization,translation of technical texts has played a significant role in the process of scientific and technological communication.Automotive technology translation is one of these communications,serving the languages transformation in automotive and relevant industries,aimed at achieving the goal of multilingual communication for the automotive research and development,production,sales and after-sale services.X Automotive Handbook for User is an instruction for vehicles,aimed at bringing the consumers convenience to quickly learn its basic performance and operating methods.There is no translation English version so far.With parallel texts of Y Owner’s Manual and Z Owner’s Manual,the report makes a case study on the specific translation methods guided by the three principles of beauty based on translation aesthetics theory for aesthetic effects.This report includes five parts.The first part is about task description which gives a brief introduction about X Automotive Handbook for User as well as the significance and requirements of the project.Then the second part is about preparation for the project.With the analysis of the characteristics of language in X Automotive Handbook for User,we find its language is beautiful.The third part is about translation aesthetics theory and three beauties in the translation of the project,including beauty of accuracy,beauty of conciseness and beauty of logic.The fourth part is about translation methods,which summarizes the main methods used for aesthetic effects including paraphrase,combination,extension,conversion and reversing.In the fifth part a conclusion is drawn about the translator’s finding of the translation project,limitations and the suggestions for the translation of X Automotive Handbook for User.Through this project,the translator has found the beauty in the language of automotive technology texts such as X Automotive Handbook for User under translation aesthetics theory.This translation project is conducted under the three principles of beauty with specific translation methods for the purpose of aesthetic effect.Based on specific translation methods,this translation project is aimed to bring aesthetic effects to the users while transmitting basic information.In addition,this project provides a reference for further automotive technology translation.
