An English-chinese Translation Report On Technical Specifications Of Suai-Beaco Highway Project

With the advancing of The Belt and Road Initiative,Chinese government has been encouraging domestic enterprises to take an active part in international competitive bidding(IBC)and provides export seller’s credit for the contact awarded project.Hence,the Contractor comes to pay attention to the Engineering English Translation for the exploration of the overseas market.This translation report is based on the Technical Specifications of Suai-Beaco Highway Project,the content of the Contract for Construction of Suai-Beaco Highway Project Section-1:Suai to Mola Section in Democratic Republic of Timor-Lest.The author is recommended as the interpreter in COVEC Branch IV,responsible for the translation of the technical specifications,correspondences and government liaison activities.Under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory(Nida & Taber,2004),the author explores features and strategies that are applicable to Technical Specifications of Suai-Beaco Highway Project Translation.This report comprises of five chapters,namely,embracing introduction,task description,translation procession with difficulties,case study and summary.The analytic object of this report is the English-Chinese translation of Technical Specifications of Suai-Beaco Highway Project,which involves site construction,quality control,measurement and payment,and environment management for the highway project.Combined with Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory(Nida &Taber,2004)and the specific context of the source text,the author makes a study on the difficulties in translation process,including technical terms,abbreviations,shop drawings,and equations.Through the whole translation process,the author found that the main translation strategies frequently employed in this paper should be literal translation,amplification and omission.It is hopeful that the highway project can be constructed and completed successfully through this translation practice.At the same time,the author hopes that this translation practice will serve as a reference for future civil engineering English translation projects.
