On The Toponym Of Thebo

Located in the south of the Tibetan area of Ando is the district of Thebo(Ch.Diebu),divided into upper,middle and lower regions.The special location and rich history make Thebo an important treasure house of culture.Toponymy is the subject related to the study of geographical names,which reflects the local history and culture,life customs and religious beliefs.This toponymy of Thebo based on abundant Chinese and Tibetan literatures,as well as related myths and legends recorded by the folk people.The method of fieldwork of anthropology was used to collect the information of geographical names of different regions.In the dissertation,the classifications of place names was engaged and some important names are also examined.It is concluded that place names demonstrate diverse natural ecological culture and brilliant and long human history of Thebo.
