A Study Of The Southern Huaiyi And Its Related Problems In The Bronze Inscriptions

In this paper,eight bronzes of the late Western Zhou Dynasty,such as Zhongcuifu Ding,Guozhong Xugai,Liusheng Xu,Xijia Pan,Jufu Xugai,Yu Ding,Yu Gui,Ehouyufang Ding,are mainly used to date and interpret the inscriptions of the bronzes.On this basis,an analysis is made of the Southern Huaiyi area.First of all,based on the ornamentation of these eight bronzes,combined with the interpretation of inscriptions and the records of handed down documents,this paper classifies these bronzes into four categories according to the chronological order: Yili period(Yugui),Liwang period(Guozhong Xugai,Liusheng Xu,Ehouyufang Ding),Lixuan period(Zhongcuifu Ding,Yu Ding),Xuanwang period(Xijia Pan,Jufu Xugai);and then,in the process of combing based on the viewpoints of various scholars,this paper interprets and reads the inscriptions of bronzes,and synthesizes the research results of various scholars and other unearthed documents to provide material support for the interpretation of some words and place names.For example,Tong Di should be Tongcheng City,Anhui Province,and Zhongcuifu Ding should be Xunbobian Ding.Then,on the basis of the interpretation of the inscriptions of bronzes,it determines the geographical scope of Southern Huaiyi,that is Southern Huaiyi in the late Western Zhou Dynasty;The general range of Huaiyi should be at least as far as the south of Henan Province,the south of Anhui Province,the north of Yangtze River,the west of Anhui Province,the present of Anhui Province,Jiangxi Province,Hubei Province,and the east of Jiangsu Province.Finally,according to the topography,climate characteristics,historical documents and bronze inscriptions,it is believed that the natural geographical conditions of Southern Huaiyi are superior and they are rich in cloth.The smelting technology of silk,bronze and bronze is superb and the military strength is strong.
