In the wake of the advancement of Chinese national power,more and more foreigners choose to come and study in China.At present it is quite often to see foreign students who come to China for Chinese study but would give it up halfway through with diminishing motivation,careless attitude and discontinuation in learning interests.Foreign students present diverse learning motivation and attitude due to their differences in cultural background and Chinese proficiency,while this attitude and motivation will influence learner' continuing study to a great extent.Based on the above,exploring the attitude and motivation of learners can be truly instructive to the enhancement on their learning interests,the improvement on relevant teaching as well as to the development of Chinese language study for foreign students.This paper had adopted multiple analyzing methods,including literature study,investigation and surveys,statistical analysis and contrast analysis.Through surveys on foreign students from Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages,together with interviews,deep analysis was made on differences on students' attitude and motivation given they have diverse culture backgrounds,different Chinese proficiencies and methods to be used in future learning.In the meantime,the influence of different learners' learning motivation and learning attitude on their future learning intention were also studied in the experiment.Following are the results.From the view of learning motivation: 1.Learners in Chinese culture circle(non-Chinese group)do not have such a strong motivation to integrative.2.Learners with primary and intermediate Chinese proficiency are not strongly motivated to be involved.3.Learners with the intention to learn Chinese in other schools in China have strong motivation to integrative.4.Learners with relatively low involvement motivation are more likely to return back to their homeland to study or stop learning.Form the view of learning attitude: 1.Learners from non-Chinese cultural circle show negative attitudes on target language.2.Learners in Chinese character culture circle(non-Chinese group)do not show the positive attitude towards the learning environment.3.Learners who at the primary level of Chinese do not show a positive attitude towards target language.4.Learners who at intermediate level of Chinese show high anxiety in class.5.Learners whose learning intention is no longer learning present the negative attitude and high anxiety in class.However,those who are going to return back and study have the opposite attitude and behaviors in class.What is more,those who plan to study in other schools do not have the positive aim.These people as well as their cultural associations are negative too.6.The attitude towards target of the language groups and their cultural associations have a positive impact on their learning intention of no longer learning.Combining learners' interviews outcome,we had come to the objective and subjective reasons behind the learning motivation and attitude from all types offoreign students.Then we provided corresponding solutions about learning motivation and attitude dimensions to the above-mentioned situations,so to provide references to the issues related to how to assist foreign students to keep their enthusiasm at Chinese language learning,and to provide values in promoting teaching Chinese as a foreign language in China.
