The article is a translation report based on the project of Handbook of Clinical Orthopedics and Traumatology: An Approach of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.Guided by George Steiner's fourfold hermeneutic translation motion, the second chapter and some sections of the sixth chapter have been translated into English, among which some translated texts are selected for case analysis. The text itself is a medical clinical handbook with applicability and operability. It contains a lot of Western medicine knowledge and traditional Chinese medicine theories. Therefore,Translators are required to not only stick to normative wording and precise expression, but retain the characteristics of TCM,motivating the transmission of TCM culture. This report consists of four parts: an overview of the translation project, the preparation work before translation, translation case analysis ans a summary of translation practice. This report employs Steiner's fourfold hermeneutic translation motion, namely trust, aggression, incorporation and restitution, compare differences of Chinese and English and improve translation quality to the greatest extent in translation practice.According to Steiner, the translator conducts translation activities through understanding and interpretation. While translating TCM texts which are difficult to understand, the translator is bound to reinterpret the original text and make necessary explanations in order to promote understanding. Therefore, the author has every reason to believe that the theory is also applicable in the translation of bone injuries in TCM.Based on this, the author analyses in this report the characteristics of TCM texts, puts forward the corresponding strategies according to the difficulties in translation practice through specific cases to conclude application of this theory in medical translation, hoping to provide some reference for better translation of similar texts in the future.
