Academic works are one of the ways for readers to understand foreign academic research achievements, and the quality of their translated works has a very important impact on academic exchange and communication.Cultural Heritage and Tourism in the Developing World is the first one of academic books on tourism to integrate global and regional cultural heritage, tourism and related problems. For the purpose of introducing excellent foreign academic works on tourism, promoting academic and cultural exchanges at home and abroad, appealing for heritage protection and improving the author's translation ability, this paper takes middle four chapters of the book as translation materials to share translation experiences and lessons drawn from the translation with other translators,in order to make some contributions to the practice of the translation of academic works. The “Hermeneutic Motion” by the British theorist George Steiner,is of epochmaking significance to translation practice.By analyzing the translation practice of this book, this report aims in to reveal the guiding role of the “four steps” of Steiner's Hermeneutic Motion, that is,trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation,in the process of translation.Based on the analysis of such methods as addition,part-ofspeech conversion and splitting,as well as the separate classification of incorporation and compensation, this report discusses how to translate the source text into accurate and decent Chinese,so as to verify the guiding effect of the four steps of hermeneutics on academic texts. The findings and limitations and suggestions for further research in translation practice are also summarized in the conclusion.
