After the Second World War,Afghanistan and Syria broke out in larger waves of refugees. As the world's two largest refugee groups, the Afghan and Syrian refugees brought a series of issues that are not only historical problems but also complex political issues. It is the nodus and the focus in the academic circles. At present, the domestic academic circle is relatively weak in the comprehensive study of the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems, and the researches on the issue of Afghan and Syrian refugees are still in its infancy. Therefore, the comparative study of the refugee problems in Afghanistan and Syria has a certain academic significance. This paper firstly introduced the three refugee flows in Afghanistan and the Syrian refugee flow after the Second World War,especially discussed the political and martial background of the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems. It focused on conducting a comparative analysis of the occurrence of refugee problems between the two countries. Then it went to briefly introduce and compare the living conditions of refugees who belong to Afghanistan or Syria. In addition,it related and analyzed the causes of the refugee problems in Afghanistan and Syria, emphasizing the political and geopolitical factors. After that it expounded the impacts of the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems, focusing on the international community, the European countries, the countries surrounding Afghanistan or Syria,Afghanistan and Syria. In addition,it elaborated and compared the typical refugee-receiving country's coping policies and the international organizations' countermeasures.Shortly afterwards, the similarities and differences of the refugee problems in Afghanistan and Syria were reviewed and compared, conducting the intrinsic essence of the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems.Taking into account all analyses and comparisons presented in the paper,we may draw some conclusions about the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems. The outbreak of the influx of refugees in Afghanistan and Syria had a direct relationship to the continuous domestic wars.At the same time, under the intervention of foreign forces, the two countries will also generate large numbers of refugees. With the increasingly quantity of refugees who are from Afghanistan and Syria swarming into the surrounding countries, the financial, political, security, ethnic and religious relations of these countries have been greatly impacted. In particular, the infiltration of terrorist organizations in refugee groups had seriously threatened the security situation in various countries. In addition to the inadequacy of international rescue forces, countries have adopted passive refugee policies, making the living conditions of Afghan and Syrian refugees more difficult.By comparing the similarities and differences of the refugee problems in Afghanistan and Syria,we can see that the essential causes of the Afghan and Syrian refugee problems have internal and external factors. The external factor is the geopolitical factor, that are,the game of big powers and the impacts of national interests. The internal cause is the escalation of ethnic and religious conflicts. That is to say,the national and religious issues of the two countries cannot be integrated in the process of nation-state construction to achieve a high degree of unity. The nation's ethnic and religious identity is greater than the national identity.
