Research On National Identity Of Hong Kong Youths In The Condition Of Democratic Politics

Since the successful return of Hong Kong in 1997,the Chinese government has adopted an innovative governance model of “Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong with a high degree of autonomy" under the “one country,two systems”policy.The history has proved that implement of this system is a great pioneering undertaking.However,in recent years,some Hong Kong youths have encountered great problems in national identity.Western anti-China forces and the local opposition in Hong Kong have used the misunderstandings of young people in the current systems of “one country,two systems”,and deliberately create public opinion to make some Hong Kong youths have become the main force of irrational and radical social movements.When General Secretary Xi Jinping met with a delegation from Hong Kong and Macao to celebrate the 40 th anniversary of the Economic Reform and open up,he pointed out that a nation will prosper only when its young people thrive.The Hong Kong and Macao youths are not only hope and future of Hong Kong and Macao,but also the fresh blood of national construction and development.If Hong Kong and Macao youths develop well,Hong Kong and Macao will develop well,and the country will develop well.”The national identity of Hong Kong youths is not only directly related to the prosperity and stability of the Hong Kong region,but also inevitably linked to the maintenance of national unity and achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Therefore,studying the current national identity of Hong Kong youths,analyzing the existing problems and putting forward targeted suggestions is an important research subject with practicalsignificance.Based on careful study of the existing academic achievements,this article starts with the main content of Hong Kong's youths national identity under democratic political conditions.The first part briefly summaries the research background,domestic and international research status,research significance and methods.The second part illustrates the concepts of national identity,cultural identity,ethnic identity and political identity.On the basis of the above research,the author analyzes and summarizes the relationship between those concepts with national identity.The third part explores the relationship between national identity with democratic politics and the importance of the rule of law in democratic construction through arranging the development logic of western politics and the historical development of democratic politics in Hong Kong.The fourth part firstly discusses the current situation of Hong Kong youths' insufficient recognition in respect of national identity,and analyzes the internal causes of Hong Kong youths' lacking of recognition of national identity through the current situation.On the basis previous research,the fifth part put forwards corresponding measures for constructing correct national identity for Hong Kong youths under political conditions from the following aspects:strengthening the government's leading role in national identity education,deepening the cultural identity education to promote youths national identity,the distribution of social benefits focusing on equity and justice for affection of the masses and the important function of bottom-line thinking of the rule of law in Hong Kong youths' rational knowledge of democratic politics.
