A Sociolinguistic Study Of Panjin Place Names

Place name is usually a certain natural or human geography entity space position that has been given proper nouns,it involves toponymy,linguistics,history,ethnology and so on,the meaning of the name in general is the literal meaning of place name,acting as the breakthrough point,or named after its reasons.Place names are the product of civilization and progress of human society.It is a tool for people to communicate and interact with each other.With the development of economy and society,people communicate more and more frequently,and the frequency and importance of place names become more and more obvious.Especially right now it's a social information age,place names are more prominent in people's life.Place names not only play an active role in people's daily life,and it is indispensable to the state administrative management for basic information resources,through the national economic,cultural and social construction,along with many other important national policies.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out detailed study and analysis of place names.Through investigation,Panjin city was built in 1984 with a total population of 1.4 million,with 4 distracts under its jurisdiction,namely Xinglongtai district,Shuangtaizi sub-district,Dawa district and PanShan county.Due to the late establishment,place names of Panjin in Liaoning province research literature is less,still it is in a state of lagging behind,a file of place names of social linguistics research results are very few,this paper conclude from Panjin of each district and county,township and administrative villages,which states from two aspects: language and culture.In order to set up a file in administrative villages through analyzing the place names above,and to inspire the people to set up a file the understanding of the social history.It has an extremely positive significance.In this paper,589 place names in the administrative district of Panjin city are studied.Data research is based on the region of local Chronicles and almanac,local Chronicles and so on,on the basis of relevant data,field survey of Panjin place names is combined with the theory of social linguistics,which also reveals the characteristics of place names and its reflection of social and cultural status.The text consists of five parts:It mainly introduces the subject,status,basis,significance,scope of investigation and method of investigation.The first chapter discusses the geographical names and their classification characteristics from the historical aspect of Panjin.In the period of Han gaozu,houses were established in Panjin area,which is located in the Dawa county of Panjin city today,which is the earliest record in history.Until June 1986,it was approved by the state council to set up Panjin city,which is directly affiliated to Liaoning province,and experienced the historical baptism of 2000 years.This chapter will introduce the humanistic history of Panjin city,and summarize the classification of Panjin names and the basic characteristics of place names.Chapter two: introduce the structure and characteristics of the words in its name.Mainly from the syllable structure,the level and oblique tones and words make up analysis constitute law of Panjin place names,it is concluded that a file name double syllables,predominate place names,geography characteristics of high class place name,it embody diversified social and cultural backgrounds of the embody the characteristics of Panjin city features.Chapter Three: place names and the relationship between natural resources and social economic activities,the relationships include the natural resources and geographical feature,and river hydrology,grass vegetation,and mineral resources.Social and economic activities include agriculture,industry and commerce.Chapter Four: introduce the evolution of Panjin place names.Through the discussion of the changes in the form of Panjin names,the change of words and meaning,summarize the laws of political,economic and cultural development of Panjin society.Chapter Five: discussion on the standardization of Chinese names.Based on the necessity of strengthening the standardization construction of place names,this chapter analyzes the objective problems existing in the management of the place names in Panjin city,and puts forward valuable suggestions on the future construction of place names.
