Analysis Of Huangzhou Double Line Technique

The 20^th century is an era of fluctuation in China.In the midst of revolution,figure painting came to be the major force of the Chinese painting again.HuangZhou was one of the outstanding artists among all figure painters.His innovative painting style granted him a vital place in the history of Chinese painting.Different from Xu-Jiang system which was based on the western sketch and the Zhejiang school which referring to the freehand flower-bird technique.HuangZhou’s painting style has a system of its own.Chinese figure painting came to decline since the rise of the literati painting.There were some master of figure painting,such as ChenHongshou and RenBonian during the Ming and Qing dynasties,but the declining trend cannot be saved in the mass.In the Republic of China,a number of artists represented by XuBeihong worked to modify the Chinese painting with western painting style.Though China has made exchanges with Western art in history,most are those of claborate-style painting.Classic European painting techniques of shaping with line draft and painting layer by layer are of certain similarity with“modifying for times”and“applying colors for times”in traditional Chinese painting skills.As for the freehand painting,Western painting modeling seems to be not in line with Chinese painting method,so there is a long way to go to develop the Chinese painting.HuangZhou has influenced the innovation and development of the Chinese painting in multiple aspects.DengTuo once said that Huang’s painting has“three innovations”:“innovation in character”,“innovation in atmosphere”,and“innovation in method”.This paper works to study on Huang’s repetitive lines technique which is created by Huang as a new skill born from the painting from life.The technique was originated from sketch,making models in lines,so as to better combine with Chinese painting compared with Western light sketch.Though it is still sees a shortage in the quality of line in comparison to the lines in traditional Chinese painting,the repetitive lines technique is still a breakthrough in the painting skill of Chinese painting.China has a traditional terms of“eighteen line drawing methods”and“sixteen texturing methods”,so the repetitive lines technique can be deemed as a new“line drawing method”to enrich the skills of Chinese painting and derive more fresh techniques.All these will drive Chinese painting to further move forward.
