Gong Xian,who ranks first in the "Eight Masters in Jinling",is a great artist in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,good at painting landscapes.The social environment in which Gong Xian lived was very harsh.The tragic experience of the country’s dilapidation and family separation made him spend most of his life in a state of displacement.But in these years of sufferings,with extraordinary talent and perseverance,he makes his painting break through the shackles of traditional Chinese painting,break through the darkness of reality,and show a different world.The most famous period of his paintings is the dark and brilliant "Black Gong"period,which precedes the bright and simple "White Gong" style and the fascinating "Grey Gong"style.During his life,Gong Xian kept constantly exploring and studying and after absorbing the painting essence of the predecessors,he broke the old rules of ink,making further development in the traditional Chinese painting language.He walked out of the painting art road with his own characteristics,becoming is a master of accumulate-ink method,and bringing inspiration and experience to future generations in the study of Chinese painting.The paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter introduces Gong Xian’s life and painting learning experience.Gong Xian’s life was filled with twists and turns.He was reduced to a conquered slave from a rich family and lived a wandering in life without dependence;however,he lives tenaciously with a tough mind,never stopping studying and creating painting in a harsh environment,and he laid his ambition and inner feelings upon the paintings.The second chapter analyzes the painting form of dots of Gong Xian’s works.The first section introduces gong Xian’s application of dots in the period of the "White Gong",the "Grey Gong" and the "Black Gong" as well as the characteristics of the painting styles in each period.The second section analyzes the causes of dots in Gong Xian’s works from the four aspects:social reasons,natural reasons,master’s system and painting ideas;The third section analyzes the formal characteristics of dots in Gong Xian’s works from three aspects:the category of dots,artistic expression,spiritual connotation This paper.The third chapter analyzes the innovation of the form of dots in Gong Xian’s paintings.Gong Xian is good at taking nature methods,paying attention to observation and sketching.He does not believe in the ancients,but changes the accumulate-ink method with boldness and creativity,paying attention to the changes of light and shadow in the picture.The fourth chapter mainly introduces the inspiration of form of dots in Gong Xian’s works to the later masters and the author.The paper mainly through the appreciation of Gong Xian’s landscape paintings,and carrying on the exploration and analysis to it,to interpret the painting form of Gong Xian’s works,and hopes through exploring the art form of dots in Gong Xian’s landscape paintings,to give inspiring to people who want to bend themselves to the development of Chinese painting.
