On The Artistic Characteristics Of Zhou Zhimian's Flower And Bird Painting

In the historical development of Chinese flower and bird painting,Ming Dynasty is undoubtedly the turning point of the development of flower and bird painting,and the flower and bird painting in Ming Dynasty is more prosperous than landscape and figures.The flower and bird painting of Ming Dynasty dates back to the Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty.It has not only the inheritance of the two Song Dynasties,but also the inheritance of the literati painting of Yuan Dynasty.It can be said that the styles are various.The development of commodity economy in the middle and late Ming Dynasty led to a great change in the style of flower and bird painting,and the secularization of literati and the popularization of art began to appear.Zhou Zhimian,a flower and bird painter in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,inherited the style of his predecessors and became a self-made painter.He had a certain influence on the flower and bird paintings of Ming Dynasty,Yun Shouping and Changzhou School of painting of Qing Dynasty,which was enough to see his position in the history of flower and bird painting.However,in the literature related to the study of flower and bird painting in the past dynasties,there are relatively few discussions about Zhou Zhimian’s artistic achievements,which is not commensurate with his artistic achievements in flower and bird painting.Based on the background of the middle and late Ming Dynasty,the economic and cultural environment and Zhou Zhimian’s successors,this paper explores the causes of Zhou Zhimian’s artistic style,and then analyzes its artistic characteristics with a large number of works.The prosperity of politics,economy and culture in Wumen area in the middle and late Ming Dynasty is the external condition for the formation of Zhou Zhimian’s flower and bird painting style.The direct reason for the formation of Zhou Zhimian’s style lies in Zhou Zhimian’s extensive absorption of previous flower and bird painting techniques and his unremitting exploration and bold practice of flower and bird painting creation.Judging from a large number of works handed down by him,Zhou Zhimian’s artistic style is diverse: there are not only a kind of neat and delicate hospital body,but also a kind of freehand brushwork.On this basis,Zhou Zhimian has formed his own characteristics of flower and bird painting with work belt.Compared with the early flower and bird painting painters,Zhou Zhimian’s flower and bird painting is richer in content and more closely related to life in subject matter.However,due to the commercialization of art in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,the aesthetic taste of the citizens influenced the elegance of the literati.Some of Zhou Zhimian’s flower and bird paintings appeared to be "refined and Fangzhi",which was embodied in the appearance of common appreciation.Zhou Zhimian’s flower and bird painting not only had a great influence on the flower and bird painting in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,but also on Yun Shouping and Changzhou School of painting in the early Qing Dynasty and even the contemporary flower and bird painting.Zhou Zhimian’s flower and bird painting occupies a more important position in the history of Chinese flower and bird painting,which is worthy of further exploration.
