Learning a language,requires not only to learn its vocabulary,grammar and pronunciation,but also requires to learn culture,because the relationship between language and culture is very close.Learning languages is for the better understanding of culture,and learning culture is an important part of the ability of learners to better integrate into the target country language.In the teaching of Chinese,the position of cultural teaching is very important,because mastering Chinese requires understanding of Chinese culture.October 2009,Chinese language teaching entered the Confucius Institute of Lomé University,Togo.Nowadays,Chinese language teaching at the Confucius Institute at Université de Lomé has a history of ten years.Chinese as a second language is very popular in Togo,and the scale of running schools is constantly expanding.The level has been continuously improving,the quality of the school education has been steadily improving,and the characteristics of the school have gradually been formed.However,there are still some irregularities in the teaching of Chinese culture,which deserves deep investigation and research.This paper takes the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé in Togo as the research object,uses literature research and questionnaires to analyze the current situation of Chinese culture teaching at the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé,in order to find out the problems in cultural teaching at the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé Togo,so that it will provide some help in the teaching of Chinese culture in Togo.There are five parts in this article:The preface part introduces the research background and purpose,research object,content and method.The first chapter is about the relationship between language and culture,including the definition and relationship between language and culture,the importance of culture teaching and literature review.The second chapter is the status and investigation of the culture teaching of the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé in Togo,including the content,arrangement and extracurricular activities of cultural teaching.The third chapter is based on the evaluation and analysis of the culture teaching survey of the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé in Togo.The survey found that the culture teaching of the Confucius Institute has the following advantages: flexible teaching mode,teachers can clearly explain Chinese culture,but there are still some shortcomings: Teachers pay attention to Chinese language teaching,light culture teaching,students’ initiative and enthusiasm for Chinese culture learning are low,and objective reasons that affect cultural classes,etc.The fourth Chapter proposes three major suggestions for improvement of culture teaching at the Confucius Institute of Université de Lomé in Togo based on the previous content,such as: perfecting Chinese textbooks and adjusting Chinese culture class hours,perfecting teaching methods,and suggestions for schools and students.The conclusion part summarizes the research and puts forward the innovations and deficiencies of this article.
