| As the most widely used curriculum resource in the subject teaching at the middle school,teaching aid books and learning aid books are collectively referred to as aid books(shortened for aids and English aid books or shortened for English aids).It includes Chinese,mathematics,English,physics,chemistry,biology,politics,history,geography and other subjects,and is now an indispensable teaching resource in the teaching community.In English teaching,the fundamental material of teaching and learning is textbooks,and English aids have an extremely important impact on English teaching.They have a pivotal position in teaching and are of great help for English education and teaching.Therefore,this study takes English teaching aids as the starting point and finds that everything has two sides.Teachers and students’ favor for English teaching aids has led to the emergence of over-reliance on auxiliary books.At the same time,English aids also have some problems in quality.Therefore,two questions are raised: What are the problems in the use of English aids by teachers and students? What are the problems in the quality of English aids? In response to these problems,this thesis uses such methods as field visits,questionnaires,classroom observations,interviews with teachers and students,etc.to research the basic information on the following aspects: current junior high school English teaching aids,the actual use of teacher and student,the reasons for use,the evaluations after using,and problems in use.And to study the structure and content of English aid books under the guidance of the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(2011 edition).This research adopts a research method integrating qualitative analysis and quantitative research,and draws the following conclusions:There are more or less problems with the English aids and with the actual use of them,and the problems in the use of English aids are mainly reflected in the following three aspects: the first is that students are dependent on English aids,which is chiefly manifested in the lack of students’ spirit to challenge English aids and over-reliance on the reference answers.The second is the lack of timely and effective guidance of teachers when students encounter difficulties or confusions;the thirdis that students do not make full use of English aids.The problems in English aids are mainly reflected in: First,the affection goals of cultivating students’ emotions,attitudes and values required by the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards have not been reflected in English aids;second,the materials with the exemplar sentences are old-fashioned and devoid of instructive value;third,some English aids are low in consistency with the textbooks in the structural arrangement;fourth,the English aids do not pay enough heed to improving students’ listening and reading ability.With in mind the problems of students’ English aids and the problems encountered in the use of them,the author puts forward corresponding measures as follows: regarding the market supervision of them,the education department should strictly manage and review the aids;about the purchase of them,the school should refer to the opinions of students and front-line English teachers;as to the editing,the aids should follow the four principles such as thoughtful,scientific,interesting and flexible;with respect to its use,firstly,teachers should play their guiding role on the basis of the students English level;secondly,students should base their learning on teaching materials,with aids as the supplement,and avoid over-dependence upon it;thirdly,students should use aids in a timely manner and autonomously,and to form good learning habits.As a result,it is hoped that English aids can play a maximum role in junior middle school English teaching and better assist teaching;and that can provide theoretical and practical basis for more healthy growth of English aids;and that can provide insightful reference for the publication and use of aids.Certainly,because this study only selected three middle schools in Wanzhou District as the survey sample,the conclusions drawn in the study are not widely applicable and need to be continuously improved in future research. |
