After the May 4th Movement, society was already undergoing tremendous changes,Stimulated by crisis awareness, intellectuals shifted from "express views" to "action",they have different orientations in political, cultural, and social transformation, and they continue to argue.During this period,Hu Shih and Wu Zhihui’s expositions on scientific concepts, political reforms and educational concepts have mutual recognition and opposition.Although Wu Zhihui and Hu Shih are different in their education and early experiences, their common concern for social issues has given them the premise to express their views and communicate with each other. In 1923,in the "Science and Metaphysics" discussion,Wu Zhihui and Hu Shih published their views on science and outlook on life, explored the relationship between material civilization and spiritual civilization, and explained their different thoughts on modern Chinese civilization.Under the influence of social activism and action consciousness, both Wu Zhihui and Hu Shih’s political attitudes changed. From the perspective of system construction, the difference in political ideas between the two parties is determined by the different theoretical foundations of "anarchism" and "good governmentism",but in the end all failed due to the "idealism" of too high political theory. From the perspective of political and ideological construction, moral consciousness has become the starting point for the two to regulate social politics. With the reorganization of Chinese society,Wu Zhihui and Hu Shih’s political thoughts were repositioned simultaneously. After the May 4th Movement, social changes also changed the educational thinking of Hu Shih and Wu Zhihui. The two ways of education in this period,"universalization" and "improvement," were given the dual era significance of "enlightenment" and "salvation".In this context,Wu Zhihui and Hu Shih expressed their views on the implementation methods and social significance of universal education, school education, and work-study mutual aid practice. The sociality of education has become a topic of common concern to them.
