Research On The Application Of Ailuo Año's Design Ideas And Methods

Eero Aarnio is known as one of the most innovative and romantic Finnish designers in the 1960 s,and a pioneer of using plastic materials in experimental furniture design.The renovation of his design is reflected in the use of bright colors and the "rebellion" of traditional furniture design forms composed of legs,backrests and nodes.Aarnio has created a big number of high-quality works with both artistry and functionality and has won a lot of awards and honors in his 70 years design career.His most famous design is the "Ball Chair",which was given the spirit of the 1960s’ aviation spirit.However,he did not make literary work to explain his design philosophy.Therefore,exploring his design philosophy,summarizing and learning his methods in design is paramount for contemporary design culture.The thesis includes two parts to discuss Aarnio’s design philosophy.The first part is the theoretical research,which includes three chapters.In the first chapter,the discussion is about the Scandinavian design environment,life and work experience which made such a considerable influence on his design philosophy.The second chapter is about describing Aarnio’s style of his design work.In addition,crosswise comparison between Aarnio and other contemporary designers more clearly shows the designer’s characteristic.In Chapter three,Aarnio’s design methods are classified into three categories through the classification of his design works.Two most representative works are chosen to analyze the image initiation path in detail.The second part is the final design application,which is an attempt to dialectically follow the design philosophy of Aarnio’s product design.
