The purpose of this project was to identify a funding source and write a grant to fund Date Smart, a pilot program to prevent adolescent dating violence at three Long Beach Boys and Girls Clubs in Southern California. An expansive literature review was conducted to increase the grant writer's knowledge about the growing problem of adolescent dating violence and to examine evidence-based prevention programs that have been implemented in the past. Research for potential funding sources were conducted via the internet and through the grant database at the Long Beach Non-Profit Partnership Library. The Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation was selected as a potential funder due to its focus on prevention and intervention programs, and a grant was written to seek funding for the pilot program.
