S-Adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) is the starting point of a very wide range of biological processes known as the AdoMet cascade. An interesting pathway in this cascade of biological events is the methionine salvage pathway, in which the amino acid methionine is reformed from a by-product of ethylene or polyamine biosynthesis. The present work describes the design and synthesis of analogues of natural metabolic intermediates in the methionine salvage pathway with the objective of developing selective inhibitors. Targets included spiro and bicyclic analogues of 5-methylthio-5-deoxyribose and the corresponding adenosyl derivatives.;A... |
