Study On Weaving,Dyeing And Embroidery Of The Bouyei In Guizhou

Textile technology can be traced back to the Neolithic age.Spinning,weaving,printing and dyeing,embroidery are the important components of the traditional textile technology.The Bouyei is a branch of Baiyue.Its weaving,dyeing and embroidery crafts have a long history in the southwest of China and have high artistic and cultural value.As a vital element of the excellent culture of the Bouyei,clothing making techniques of the Bouyei in Guizhou province were included in the first batch of Catalogue of revitalization of Traditional Craft.Culture is the blood of an ethnic group and the spiritual home of the people.In the era of cultural confidence,the study on weaving,dyeing and embroidery of the Bouyei is to inherit traditional craft.Furthermore,it is an essential way to reflect ethnic culture and spirit.Therefore,this thesis takes weaving,dyeing and embroidery crafts of the Bouyei and patterns of textiles as the research objects,and analyses the craftsmanship and artistic characteristics of the weaving,dyeing and embroidery of the Bouyei to reveal the cultural connotation and aesthetic character of Bouyei traditional craft.This thesis mainly discusses the weaving,dyeing and embroidery of the Bouyei.It is illustrated by the following four parts.The first part starts with the geographical environment and textile cultural background of the Bouyei.The foundation and premise of the formation of Bouyei weaving,dyeing and embroidery are summarized.In the second section,the characteristics of Bouyei dyeing,weaving and embroidery are studied through fieldwork investigation.Consequently,the relationship between existing dyeing plants and techniques is discovered,which involves three color dyeing processes of indigo,red and yellow.In addition,the Bouyei batik is discussed.This thesis discusses Bouyei weaving craft step by step.In addition,the traditional loom and its components are investigated;the main materials,tools and techniques applied in Bouyei embroidery are analyzed.For the third section,the artistic characteristics of handicrafts of the Bouyei is analyzed.This is achieved by collecting Bouyei batik,yarn-dyed fabric,brocade and embroidery handicrafts,and classifying their patterns of different categories in relation to the theme.On account of this,the themes are primarily divided into five categories: geometric patterns,animal patterns,plant patterns,utensil patterns and character patterns.Moreover,combined with the geographical environment and cultural environment of the Bouyei,the contributing factors of color formation in Bouyei weaving,dyeing and embroidery and its color matching mode are analyzed.Finally,according to the specific use,craft characteristics,artistic characteristics of Bouyei handicrafts,and its functions which include practical,aesthetic and normative functions are concluded.On this basis,combined with the long history and profound folk culture of the Bouyei,this thesis expounds the connotation of ethnic belief embodied in Bouyei weaving,dyeing and embroidery.Finally,the exchange of textile culture between the Bouyei and other ethnic groups is discussed,and the cultural development context of the Bouyei traditional craft is obtained.In conclusion,this thesis aims to illustrate the intact process of the current traditional weaving,dyeing and embroidery handicraft of the Bouyei,summarize its craft feature,and reveal the artistic characteristics and cultural connotation of ethnic handicrafts.On the foundation of this,a relatively complete craft system of Bouyei weaving,dyeing and embroidery of the Bouyei could be demonstrated.This thesis provides the reference experience and theory for understanding,protecting and inheriting the excellent traditional craft of the Bouyei and minority culture.
