Research On The Role Of Gates Foundation In The Global Health Governance

Since the beginning of the new century,several outbreaks of large-scale infectious diseases that have affected the world have made global health issues more and more important.While governments and the World Health Organization are actively responding,more and more non-state actors are entering the global health field.The Gates Foundation is one of the most influential representatives.In participating in the process of global health governance,the Gates Foundation has invested huge amounts of money and advocated innovative governance methods,which have had a profound impact on global health governance.Based on the Gates Foundation’s annual report and other materials,this article examines the Gates Foundation’s participation in global health governance,discusses its innovative practices in global health governance mechanisms,governance areas,and governance paths,and analyzes its impact on global health governance.The impact of even international relations is intended to deepen the understanding of the role and mode of action of non-state actors in global health governance.This article is divided into four parts.The first part focuses on the evolution of the function of US private foundations in global health governance.It examines the basic situation of US private foundations participating in global health governance in three stages: leading the global governance process,retiring behind the scenes and returning to the center.The second part mainly analyzes the mechanism of the Gates Foundation’s participation in global health governance-public-private partnership.This part discussed the situation of the Gates Foundation’s participation in global health governance in a public-private partnership from three aspects of the Global Immunization Alliance,Emergency Medical Rescue and Public Welfare Initiative projects,and its collaboration in strengthening the global health governance of the private sector and government agencies the unique status of the relationship.The third part examines the key areas of concern of the Gates Foundation in the process of global health governance,and discusses the specific actions taken by the Gates Foundation in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases,the development of innovative technologies,and the construction of health information platforms.The fourth part mainly discusses the impact of the gates foundation’s participation in global health governance,and points out that the actions of the gates foundation are conducive to improving the level of global health governance and promoting the innovation of global health governance model,as well as carrying the function of enhancing the soft power of the United States and cooperating with its foreign policy.
