For a cross-flow plate tower with large diameter,the existence of liquid level gradient on the plate will cause uneven gas phase distribution in the tower,which leads to gas-liquid bias and affects the efficiency of mass transfer.As a newly developed tray type,total spray tray(TST)has the characteristics of gas-liquid countercurrent contact,no liquid downcomers,three-dimensional total spray and high efficient mass transfer,so it has a good application prospect in large-scale tower,offshore sloshing platform distillation and catalytic distillation in the future.In this paper,the optimized structures of TST are given.Taking the air-water and air-ethyl acetate-dodecylbenzene as the working medium,respectively,the hydraulic and mass transfer properties of TST were studied experimentally,and the principle of single-plate two-stage heat transfer was put forward too.The effects of liquid overflow intensity,spray tube of opening ratio,holes shape and bottom gap height on the pressure drops,clear liquid heights,weeping,entrainment and mass transfer efficiency were analyzed.The experimental results showed that the bottom gap height of TST spray tube is an important design parameter.Through the structure optimization,TST exhibits superior hydraulic performance than VST,and the tray efficiency can be improved by about 40% under the same conditions.Moreover,the high operation flexibility of TST was obtained due to a novel property,which the height of the liquid layer was self-adjusted with the change of gas kinetic energy factor,which completely breaks through the traditional cognition that the traditional countercurrent tower has a small gas-liquid flux,low operating flexibility,and is difficult to industrialize.Through the research in this paper,a large-scale solution of the tray towers was put forward.Furthermore,theoretical and experimental data were provided for the design of countercurrent trays and its industrial applications.
