In the early 1980 s,China implemented reform and opening up.In order to meet the requirements of emancipating and developing productive forces,it achieved a great transformation from a planned economic system to a socialist market economic system. At the same time of rapid economic development, the living environment, diet and nutritional status have been significantly improved, and medical technology has made tremendous progress, which has increased the average life expectancy of our country from 70 in the 1990 s to 77 today. At the same time, the family planning policy implemented since the late 1970 s greatly reduced the fertility rate. After 2010,the family planning policy was gradually relaxed, but due to the high cost of parenting and education, the birth rate did not rebound as expected. The combination of ageing and low birth rates has led to an increasing proportion of the elderly population. What is more serious is that China has entered an aging society under the condition of “being old before getting rich”and insufficient old-age security. The severity of aging will exert unprecedented pressure on individuals, families and society. In order to ensure that the elderly are supported and dependent,it is necessary to conduct an in-depth discussion on the distribution of the elderly’s health status.A comprehensive study of the health status and differences of elderly people with different socioeconomic status will help to more accurately assess the degree of aging in our society, more rationally allocate medical and long-term care resources, and more effectively formulate retirement and other labor policy.Based on the health investment theory, this paper uses the cross-sectional data of China Health and Reitrement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)in 2015 to make a more comprehensive analysis of the health status of the middle-aged and elderly people in China and the differences between different characteristics Research. The study mainly uses two social and economic variables, education and income level,to study the impact of socioeconomic status on the health differences of the elderly.Through multiple regression and Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition,we can understand the distribution of differences in the health status of the middle-aged and elderly population in terms of gender,urban-rural and age characteristics. The study found that socioeconomic status is an important factor that affects the health level of middle-aged and elderly people in China;education is the main cause of urban-rural,gender,and age differences, and income has a limited contribution to the health difference of middle-aged and elderly people; It has an impact, but it has a small impact on the difference between different physiological indicators of the middle-aged and elderly population. But we cannot ignore the predictive effect of physiological indicators on disease, and more in-depth research is needed.
