A Study On COVID-19 Vaccine Reports In The People’s Daily’s

As a vaccine against novel Coronavirus,COVID-19 vaccine is a major breakthrough in the field of medicine.COVID-19 vaccines play an important role in the global fight against the virus,and vaccination to form an immune barrier is currently recognized as the most effective way to fight the disease.However,as a vaccine with a short development cycle and a short time on the market,public awareness of the novel coronavirus vaccine is still relatively shallow.Moreover,since the launch of China’s COVID-19 vaccine,there have been numerous controversies both at home and abroad.As the pandemic spread around the world,the vaccine quickly escalated into a global issue.It is worth studying how the People’s Daily,as a national mainstream media,reports on the major issue of COVID-19 vaccine,and how the news framework of the People’s Daily reflects and plays a role in COVID-19 vaccine coverage.This study is based on the COVID-19 vaccine reports of the People’s Daily from January 2020 to October 2021,supported by the "framework theory" methodology.Firstly,the content analysis method was used to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine reports quantitatively and qualitatively.In addition,this study also used discourse analysis to study the orientation and emphasis of discourse presentation in COVID-19 vaccine reports,and conducted word frequency analysis and social semantic network analysis on COVID-19 vaccine reports in the People’s Daily.Based on the research conclusions of content analysis and discourse analysis,further analysis and mining of samples were carried out to extract five main frameworks of COVID-19 vaccine coverage in the People’s Daily: global public goods framework,popular science framework,social responsibility framework,risk reduction framework and assistance framework.Among them,"global public goods framework" is the most frequently used framework.At the same time,this paper also studies the deep social motivation behind the distribution of news frame features from the perspective of discourse power debate,media positioning and external power.Finally,this study summarizes some shortcomings of the People’s Daily’s coverage of COVID-19 vaccine through multi-level and multi-angle analysis.In the context of the globalization of communication,the People’s Daily is facing a dual scramble for domestic and international attention resources in its coverage of COVID-19 vaccine.In the future,it should focus on the balance and constructiveness of coverage: balancing the angle of coverage;Grasp the dialectical unity of positive report and public opinion supervision;Increase the humanistic care in the report;Establish their own advantage frame,etc.It is hoped that the People’s Daily should adjust the existing news framework based on positive publicity to better play the role of health knowledge dissemination,health behavior intervention and public opinion guidance,help the public to establish a correct understanding of COVID-19 vaccine,grasp the right to speak on COVID-19 vaccine issues in China and correctly guide domestic and international public opinion while improving the vaccination rate.So that it really become the people’s“information steward”,“current affairs consultant”and “opinion leader”.
