| ObjectiveThe main purpose of this study is to observe the efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion in the treatment of abdominal obesity of Yang-deficiency constitution,and to explore the improvement degree of electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion in the treatment of patients with abdominal obesity due to Yang deficiency,so as to provide new ideas for the clinical treatment of abdominal obesity through acupuncture and moxibustion.MethodsIn this study,68 patients with abdominal obesity due to Yang deficiency who were admitted to each outpatient and inpatient department of the Acupuncture Department of Hubei Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2020 to December 2021 were recruited as subjects.According to a random number table,the subjects were randomly divided into electroacupuncture group（34 cases）and electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group（34 cases）in a 1:1ratio.In the electroacupuncture group,Tianshu（bilateral）,Zusanli（bilateral）,Zhongwan,Shuifen,Daheng（bilateral）,Daimai（bilateral）,Shuidao（bilateral）,Huaroumen（bilateral）,Fujie（bilateral）,as the main acupuncture points,were performed routine acupuncture,and the bilateral Tianshu and Daheng points were stimulated with dilatational waves of electro-acupuncture instrument.The needles were retained for thirty minutes each time,three times a week,four weeks for a course of treatment,and a total of 2 courses were given to the subjects.In the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group,umbilical moxibustion treatment was added on the basis of the electroacupuncture group.The specific method was as follows: firstly,the homemade aconite cake by the acupuncture department was placed on the Shenque acupoint,and then the moxa cone was placed on the aconite cake,finally,the moxa cone was ignited for moxibustion.Each moxibustion cost 2-3 cones and lasted for 30 min.Both groups received diet,exercise and other lifestyle interventions during the observation period.Before and after treatment,obesity-related indicators（such as waist circumference,BMI,body weight,body fat percentage,hip circumference,waist-hip ratio,etc.）and the conversion score of Yang-deficiency constitution scale were observed and recorded,and SPSS26.0 statistical software was used to conduct statistical analysis of the collected data within and between groups to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion in the treatment of abdominal obesity with Yang deficiency.Results1.Completion of the study: A total of 68 patients with abdominal obesity were recruited in this study.During the treatment,1 patient in the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group dropped out（automatically gave up the treatment）,and there was no dropout patient in the electroacupuncture group.In the end,33 patients in the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group completed the treatment,and 34 patients in the electroacupuncture group completed the treatment.2.Comparison of changes in waist circumference of the two groups of patients before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results showed that: the waist circumference of the two groups of patients showed a downward trend to varying degrees,and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）;Compared with the electroacupuncture group,the waist circumference of the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group decreased significantly（P<0.05）.3.Comparison of body weight changes of the two groups of patients before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results showed that: the body weight of the two groups of patients showed a significant downward trend compared with before treatment,and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）;The statistical results of the comparison of body weight between the two groups showed that there was no significant difference in the decreasing trend of body weight between the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group and the electroacupuncture group（P>0.05）.4.Comparison of BMI changes in the two groups before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results showed that the BMI of the two groups showed a significant downward trend compared with before treatment,and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）;The statistical results of the comparison between the BMI groups showed that there was no significant difference in the decreasing trend of BMI between the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group and the electroacupuncture group（P>0.05）.5.Comparison of body fat percentage changes between the two groups before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results indicated that the body fat percentage of the two groups showed a significant downward trend compared with that before treatment,and the difference was statistically significant（P < 0.05）;Compared with electroacupuncture group,the body fat percentage in electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group had a more significant downward trend（P < 0.05）.6.Comparison of the hip circumference of the two groups of patients before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results indicated that the hip circumference of the two groups showed a significant downward trend,and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）;Compared with electroacupuncture group,waist circumference of electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group was more significant（P < 0.05）.7.Comparison of changes in waist-to-hip ratio between the two groups of patients before and after treatment: After the treatment,the statistical results indicated that the waist-tohip ratio of the two groups of patients showed a significant downward trend compared with before treatment,and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）.;Compared with the electroacupuncture group,the waist-hip ratio of the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group decreased more significantly（P<0.05）.8.Comparison of changes in the conversion score of Yangdeficiency constitution scale between the two groups before and after treatment: After treatment,the statistical results showed that the conversion score of Yang-deficiency constitution scale in the two groups showed a decreasing trend to varying degrees,and the difference was statistically significant（P < 0.05）;Compared with the electroacupuncture group,the conversion score of Yang-deficiency constitution scale in the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group had a more significant downward trend（P<0.05）.9.Safety evaluation: During this observation period,1patient in the electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion group had mild burns around the umbilicus after treatment,manifested as local burning pain,which was significantly improved after external application of MEBO burn cream;In the electroacupuncture group,1 patient had subcutaneous hemorrhage after treatment,which was manifested as local swelling and pain.The hematoma spontaneously subsided after immediate pressure to stop bleeding and cold compress.No serious adverse events occurred during the observation period.Conclusion1.Both electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion therapy and electroacupuncture therapy can effectively reduce obesity-related indicators such as waist circumference,hip circumference,waist-hip ratio,body mass,BMI,and body fat percentage in patients with abdominal obesity due to Yang deficiency.2.Compared with electroacupuncture alone,electroacupuncture combined with umbilical moxibustion has better curative effects on indicators such as waist circumference,hip circumference,waist-to-hip ratio,and body fat percentage,and can significantly improve the yang-deficiency biased constitution of abdominal obesity patients.It is worthy of more relevant exploration and application in clinical practice. |
