The movie script ’The Sinking Hill’ is adapted from news reports of a real criminal case, telling a series of events triggered by a corpse found in a barren hill.Qin Wuyang,a police officer who was transferred because of his gross negligence once, accidentally discovered the body of Zhou Minghui,a man who was supposed to be dead in a car accident five years ago.The later investigation revolved around the real cause of Zhou’s death.By refining the storyline and developing the characters, the brutal murder is built up with strong emotional motivation and a complete chain of actions. The story reflects the bizarre logic in today’s society that does not conform to common sense at first glance:the misfortune caused by money, the resentment caused by love, and the rebellion caused by perseverance. The story uses the most realistic approach to reveal the hidden selfishness underneath the perfect disguise of human nature and its heavy price to pay.The interpretation "the cost of self-salvation" analyzes the creative process of the script ’The Sinking Hill’.The script is explained from three aspects:the motivation of the creation, the plot and character and the theme of the work. The paper goes on and illustrates the background story and hidden clues beyond the script.Combined with the plot design and details, the rest of the paper focuses on the psychological aspect of the characters and explores its influence in depth. It is the in-depth analysis of human nature that makes the film a realistic and meaningful work.
