A Report On The Translation Of Advances In Irrigation Agronomy: Fruit Crops(Chapters One,Two)

As agriculture develops,irrigation efficiency has become a hotspot issue that attracts more and more scholars.Mike.KV.Carr’s Advances in Irrigation Agronomy: Fruit Crops is a work which studies irrigation efficiency and focuses on irrigation techniques of 11 common fruit crops.In the report,the translator took the first two chapters,demonstrating basic knowledge of irrigation and irrigation method of avocado,as a source text and through translating this two chapters,she explored the translation methods and techniques involved so as to provide certain reference for the translation of similar materials.In recent years,the Chinese government has positively advocated water conservation,and energy and labor-saving production in agriculture.However,the development of our green agricultural economy is still restricted by water shortage.To enhance water efficiency is the only way to alleviate the conflict between supply and demand of water resource.As China lags far behind the developed countries in water-saving irrigation technology,it is necessary to draw on the advanced experience and technologies in the developed countries.In this sense,the translation of this work can serve a meaningful purpose.This translation practice report contains four chapters,including task description,translation process,case analyses and summary.The first chapter mainly includes the task background,author introduction,and significances of the translation task.The second chapter describes the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,an analysis of the difficulties at lexical,syntactic and textual levels in the translation,and proof reading and modification.The third chapter,case analysis,shows how the translator has coped with the difficulties in translation under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory.With typical translation examples,this part demonstrates a variety of translation methods employed by the translator such as division,amplification,and conversion etc.The fourth chapter summarizes the translator’s experience and deficiencies in this translation practice.
