Language Research Of Yang Mo’s The Song Of Youth

The Song of Youth is not only a representative word of Yang Mo,also the Chinese modern classic literature.The research on the special book of The Song of Youth mainly focuses on literature,while the research from the perspective of language is less.This paper takes The Song of Youth as the research object.On the basis of linguistics,the application of methods such as statistics,summarization,description and comparison this paper to analyze the linguistic features of The Song of Youth from the aspects of vocabulary,grammar and rhetoric.The author also explores and reveals the causes of the style.The thesis is consists of five parts.The introduction introduces life stories of Yang Mo briefly and contents and languages of the novel The Song of Youth as well as current research situations of the novel languages.Chapter 1 researches the vocabulary of The Song of Youth in four sections.Its colloquial words include some local dialect.The colloquial words can make languages of the novel easily understood by people.Classical Chinese words of The Song of Youth include monosyllables,disyllables and the collocation of many classical words.Because of the application of classical Chinese words,the novel languages,which are elegant and graceful,can show features of the times.As far as colloquial contents are concerned,idiomatic phrases of The Song of Youth include set phrases,idioms,proverbs and allegorical sayings.The set phrases are elegant and solemn which can convey feeling and ideas succinctly and brightly.Idioms can add some interest to novel languages.Proverbs and allegorical sayings are concise and comprehensive.Chapter 2 also classifies and counts swearwords and researches their usages.Many modal particles,which can express emotions and soothe tones directly,are also used.There are many reduplicative words in The Song of Youth,which include many reduplicative words of nouns,verbs,adjectives and quantifiers.Reduplicative words of nouns and adjectives can be divided into configuration reduplication words and word-formation reduplication words.Quantifiers and verbs are featured by configuration reduplication.Reduplicative words of The Song of Youth,which can add new grammatical meanings,are components of the novel’s rich and complex language expression styles.This chapter also analyzes the application of onomatopoeic words in The Song of Youth,which can be divided into quasiphysical words and anthropomorphic words.The skillful usage of punctuations helps improve prominent effect of expressions of the novel.In The Song of Youth,dashes are the most distinctive sentence patterns.This paper makes statistics on the use of dashes and explains their grammatical functions.Chapter 3 is about rhetorical studies of The Song of Youth.Many words,which mainly include those on meanings and sounds,are polished.Various sentence patterns,such as short and loose sentences,are used.The selection of figures of speech is also mentioned in this chapter.For example,Yang Mo selected some common things in our life as the metaphorical objects.The analogy showed striking images with recurrent emotional ups and downs;the parallel structures are featured by distinct rhythm and solemn and magnificent scenes;the rhetorical questions can trigger thoughts of readers.Rhetorical devices of The Song of Youth include those of figures of speech and those of phonetics.The novel languages have strong,concise and lively rhythms.Chapter 4 discusses expressing styles of languages of The Song of Youth and compares languages of novels of the same period on the basis of analysis of the previous three chapters.Expressing styles of The Song of Youth are featured by flowery rhetoric which can suit both refined and popular tastes.The formation of novel language styles is closely related to the life experience,cultural accomplishment and personality of Yang Mo.
