A Report On The C-E Translation Of Technical Text Under The Guidance Of Translation Variation Theory

With the development of globalization and improvement of China’s international status,there will be more and more technical communications between China and other countries.During this process,technical text translation plays a very important role.Since reform and opening up,China has achieved the greatest strategic transformation from ‘bring-in’ to‘moving-out’;during this process,compared with E-C technical text translation,C-E technical text translation has took the surplus position.The current situation put forwards higher requirements for C-E technical text translators.Based on this truth,the writer chooses a Chinese text-Standardization Progress and Case Study of Edge Computing as the source text.The source text is selected from Chinese core journal-Computer Research and Development.As an informative and pragmatic text,the priority when translating this text is clearly conveying content and information to readers;meanwhile reader’s acceptance is also one important factor that needs to be considered during the translation process.Based on these two truths,a translator should use flexible methods to extract and convey contents to meet the requirements of different readers when doing this kind of translation.The above requirements decides that the translation variation theory proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian is a suitable theory that can be used as the guidance of this translation practice.According to Professor Huang: translation variation theory is used to convey contents and messages of the original text by using appropriate adaptations such as expansion,deletion,editing,commentary,condensation,combination and reformation to meet the special requirements of the special readers under special circumstances.The writer takes the translation variation theory as the guidance to complete the translation of Chinese source text – Standardization Progress and Case Study of Edge Computing and writes this practice report.During this translation practice,the writer investigates the applicability of translation variation theory in the C-E technical text translation from expansion,deletion,editing,combination and commentary and sums up some related translation skills and translation experiences.It is expected that this translation practice can not only improve people’s understanding about edge computing but also provide some references for the C-E technical text translators.
