A Report On The C-E Translation Of White Paper On Hyper Connected Computing Network

This translation project,White Paper on Hyper Connected Computing Network,falls under the category of technical text and involves a variety of technologies in communications industry that have a huge bearing on the livelihood of human society.The project was delegated to the author by a translation company after he passed the translation test and negotiated quotation and service range with the translation company.The thesis examines the communicative and linguistic contexts via the lens of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability,as proposed by Verschueren in his Theory of Linguistic Adaptation.The translation methods,as well as strategies,are reviewed following a study of problems such as how to manage structural and logical relations within text;how to translate technical terms,specialized vocabulary,specific expressions,and complex sentences;and how to adapt to the author’s and readers’ cognitive levels in order to convey information.Through this translating practice,the author makes the following conclusions: first,since context is variable and interconnected,the cohesiveness,restrictions,and logicalsemantic correlations within text should be discovered to produce the translation based upon internal coherence and relevance.Second,contextual factors constrain language composition,which in turn influences contextual changes;hence,to better translation,it is necessary to choose and arrange vocabulary,order of words,information structure,expression methods according to specific context.Lastly,due to the information gap between the author and the readers,the translator should have a rather solid knowledge base in cloud technology and always consider the cognitive level of the readers,so as to faithfully reproduce the thoughts and contextual relations in source text.
