Machine Translation And Related Post-Editing Strategies

Machine translation(MT)has been applied to a variety of fields nowadays,especially in the internet and communication technology(ICT)industry,but machine translation has not yet reached the quality standard of human translation.Besides,post-editing(PE)has become an important way to improve the quality of MT output and will play an increasingly important role in translation services.It is determined that the best application of MT is to combine it with manual PE in terms of translating informative documents.This report applies machine translation(MT)to the translation of informative text.From the introduction of this project and report,to the classification of the MT errors on lexical,syntactic and grammatical aspects based on the chosen text,the author hopes to come up with corresponding post-editing(PE)strategies.As the report shows,those errors are mainly included in a large number of new terms or proper nouns,long and difficult sentences as well as a variety of interdisciplinary knowledge in the text.Therefore,the translator wishes to combine PE activity with MT outputs,and to improve the quality of the target texts by applying certain post-editing strategies,such as deletion and addition,change of words order and transference of sentence structure,check of the mistranslation of proper nouns,selecting the correct meaning of polysemants,and so on.By doing this,the applicability of post-editing of the machine translation can hopefully be improved,the quality of the target text can reach a higher level.
