Post-editing Strategies Based On The Analysis Of Machine Translation Errors

Times are changing rapidly and technological innovations are transforming our life with each passing day.With the development of Internet technology and the ever-increasing demand of the language service industry,translation tools have sprung up in the translation market endlessly.The application of machine translation is becoming more and more common.Its delivery speed is fast,and it has such features as immediacy and low cost.However,the quality of the translation output is far from satisfying.There is still a large gap compared with human translation in translation quality.Therefore,how to balance efficiency and quality and realize the complementarity of human and machine advantages has become a top priority in the study of machine translation.From this point of view,post-editing is indispensable.The combination of machine translation and human post-editing will inevitably become an inexorable trend of the translation industry in the future.So,it is of high practical value and reference significance to analyze and summarize post-editing strategies based on the errors in machine translation.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation project of the literary historical text The Epic of America(Chapter 6).Google translation software is chosen for translating this text,and after getting the machine translated version,I imported it into the computer-aided translation software memo Q which automatically divides the text into plenty of sentences.Then I do post-editing based on the machine translation.After completion,through a comparative analysis of the machine translation and the post-editing translation,I sum up the errors in machine translation and formulate the corresponding post-editing strategies.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is an introduction to the author,the book,the style and characteristics of the text,and the report structure.The second part introduces the definition and background of machine translation and post-editing and summarizes their respective applications and development prospects.The third part describes the entire translation practice process.The fourth part divides the machine translation errors into three major types,namely,errors at the lexical level,the sentential level and the discoursal level to discuss and give the corresponding post-editing strategies.The fifth part summarizes the report and discusses the main findings and difficulties encountered in the translation process.I hope that this report can provide some insights into the post-editing of machine translation.
