Reading plays an important role in English learning.In recent years,the important goal of English teaching is to improve students’ English reading ability.However,in the current reading class,teachers often pay too much attention to the explanation of vocabulary,grammar,sentence structure or pronunciation,and ignore the essence of reading comprehension.This kind of reading teaching will hinder the cultivation of students’ English reading comprehension ability.In order to change this bad situation,this study uses mind map in junior high school English reading teaching,aiming to explore whether this new teaching mode can help improve students’ English reading level,and improve students’ enthusiasm and initiative in class.In this paper,100 students from two parallel classes in Grade 8 of Qinglin middle school in Yushan County were selected as the experimental subjects.The experimental period is from September 2018 to June 2019,which is one academic year in total.First of all,the author can know the reading results of the two classes through the questionnaire.And then the reading results of the two classes were pretested.Teacher randomly selected one class as the experimental class,the other class as the control class.The researcher applied the mind map teaching method to the reading teaching of the experimental class,while the control class continued to use the traditional reading teaching mode.After one year’s test,the reading scores of the two classes were post tested.At the same time,the questionnaire was sent again and the students were interviewed to compare whether there was any change between the two classes before and after the experiment.The research methods used by the author are literature research,experiment,questionnaire and interview.The research questions are:(1)whether mind map can improve students’ reading ability;(2)whether mind map can promote the communication between teachers and students;(3)whether mind map has a positive impact on students’ interest and habits in English learning.The results show that:(1)First of all,it is not only feasible but also effective to apply mind map to English reading teaching.(2)Secondly,as an intuitive teaching mode,mind map stimulates students’ enthusiasm and desire for knowledge.(3)Thirdly,mind map can enhance the communication and cooperation between teachers and students.After the completion of the experiment,the author makes some reflections: in the process of English reading teaching,both the teachers’ enthusiastic explanation and the students’ active cooperation are needed.Only in this way can students’ performance and reading ability be improved.
