Throughout the past years,reading comprehension occupies a large proportion in all kinds of examinations.With the reform of the college entrance examination,the importance of reading becomes more and more prominent.By consulting the references,the author finds that carrying out inquiry learning is conducive to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality and innovative spirit.At present,the theoretical research of inquiry learning by experts and scholars has become more and more mature and in-depth,but there is still a lot of research and development space for the application of inquiry learning in English reading class.In view of the above reasons,this thesis focuses on what specific strategies need to be adopted in the implementation of inquiry learning in junior high school English reading teaching,and whether the application of these strategies in reading teaching class has a positive impact on students’ performance.The author selects the students from two parallel classes in the second year of junior high school as the research object,which are set up as the experimental class and the control class respectively.Among them,the author carries on the inquiry teaching in the experimental class,the receptive teaching in the control class,and carries on the experiment for one year.At the same time,the questionnaire survey method,literature search method and other research methods are used.In order to test the positive influence of inquiry learning on students’ performance,the author uses two ways of questionnaire survey and test questions to verify it.Before and after the experiment,a questionnaire survey was carried out among 54 students from each of the two classes,and the contents of the two surveys were the same,in order to verify whether the students were satisfied with their reading ability after the implementation of inquiry learning.At the same time,the pre-test and post-test were carried out on the students of the two classes before and after the experiment.the contents of the two papers were different,but the difficulty was the same.The results of the test data are statistically analyzed by using Excel software,so as to examine the positive influence of inquiry learning on students’ reading ability more effectively and intuitively.The experimental results show that after the specific implementation of inquiry learning strategies,compared with the students in the control class,the students in the experimental class are generally satisfied with their reading ability,and the performance of the students in the experimental class is much higher than that of the students in the control class.The results show that the application of inquiry learning strategies to specific English reading courses has achieved remarkable results.Inquiry learning not only helps to improve students’ interest in English learning,increase students’ self-confidence in learning English,but also helps students to improve their examination scores.Thus it can be seen that the specific strategies of inquiry learning in junior middle school English classroom are indeed feasible.
