Report On Four Shifts In Post-Editing E-C Translation Of Machine Learning And Cognition In Enterprises

In the current era of artificial intelligence,with the development of software technology and the enrichment of corpus,effective machine translation can save costs and improve translation efficiency.Therefore,machine translation is widely used in non-literary fields.This report selects the book Machine Learning and Cognition in Enterprises(full text)by Rohit Kumar.Published in 2018,the book gives a detailed analysis and outlook on current business intelligence trends,focusing on helping organizations apply and adapt to machine learning and cognitive computing.Although the book is a technical text,its language is easy to understand,covering a wide range of readers.This report selects the technical text that machine translation is good at,and collects three authoritative machine translation versions from Baidu,Google,and Youdao Translation.It is found that there are still some mistakes in machine translation,such as disorders in sentence structure and conversion of part of speech.The Shift Theory put forward by Catford,a famous British linguist and translation theorist in his book A Linguistic Theory of Translation in 1965,applied the science of linguistics to the study of translation theory.It made the traditional empirical study of translation theory adopt scientific methods,forming a relatively complete scientific research system.Therefore,based on Catford’s theory,the author carries out the post-editing of the machine translation from four perspectives:structural-shifts,class-shifts,unit-shifts,and intra-system shifts.Although Catford’s theory is a relatively old theory,through practice,the author of the report finds that the four shifts of Catford’s theory are of great guiding significance in post-editing.Through the guidance of this theory,this practice has made some achievements in post-editing classification,text processing,efficiency improvement,skill acquisition,and editing methods.Post-editing,guided by the four shifts,can correct machine translation errors,improve the fluency and readability of the translated text,and enhance post-editing efficiency.Through this practice,the author also hopes to provide some reference for future research on post-editing.
