A Post-Editing Report On The Chinese Translation From The Perspective Of Translation Shifts Theory

This translation report is based on the translation of the Investigation of Catastrophic Engine Failure on the Ro-ro Passenger Ferry Wight Sky released by MAIB in April 2022.The author takes the text as the research object,adopts Catford’s translation conversion theory,and uses literature research method,inductive analysis method and interdisciplinary research method to analyze and summarize the types of machine translation errors from lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.In addition,the author introduces the technology of term extraction to assist post-translation editing to improve translation quality and efficiency.To address the different types of machine translation errors,the author employs post-translation editing strategies such as structure-shifts,class-shifts,unit-shifts to make the translation more accurate and smoother,with a view to providing practical references for translation work in related translation fields.
