The Acceptance And Spread Of Forster’s Character Theory In China

In the 20 th century,forster’s character theory was put forward at the height of the development of western narrative theory.It appeared at the same time as the development of the British novel theory did.It has gained the attention and recognition of many scholars.Foester’s character theory is the theory of character division between round and flat figures.The theory was first introduced to China in 1929 by Wumi.He translated it.Later,its acceptance and spread stagnated for more than 50 years.During the 1980 s and 1990 s,the dissemination of Chinese literary theory accepted the change of context.It was provided an opportunity to return to the reserch stage of Chinese literary theory.Since then,it was loved by the domestic academic circles.Then,elucidatory research,exploratory research and other theoyetical achievements keep appearing.In the 2000 s,due to the limitations of Forest’s character theory and the emergence of restricting factors.It gradually became a method of literary criticism about analysising and appreciating in literary works.This report broadens from the horizontal angle.First,make clear the origin of forster’s character theory.Forster’s character theory combined his own practical experience in literary creation with his critical inheritance of the previous theories.It contains cultural and theoretical roots.Second,it interprets and analyzes the connotation of Forster’s character theory in order to eliminate the misunderstanding in the past.From the longitudinal point of view,firstly,it makes a list of the development of the theory in China.For example,this theory has experienced early translation and introduction,the acceptance of carrying out descriptive research,and the stage of development in which adsorptive research and exploratory research are the main subjects.Secondly,the thesis analyzes the controversial viewpoints in the process of accepting and spreading the theory.It is concluded that the concepts of circle and typical,flat and type are not equivalent.Thirdly,the report discusses the factors of the acceptance and development of the theory of political and economic system for translation differences,the main stream concept of Chinese literary theory and the shortcomings of Forster’s character theory.
