Research On Media Representation And Self-construction Of Hip-hop Culture

Hip-hop culture emerged from the slums of the United States in the 1960 s,including three elements of graffiti,hip-hop dance and rap,which embodied the inherent cultural characteristics of bottom-up subculture of resistance against rebellion and injustice.With the tide of globalization,hip-hop culture has realized its expansion in the world and was introduced into China in the 1980 s.Whether the hip-hop culture introduced into China is consistent with the hip-hop culture spirit of the west?With questions,the author makes a comparative analysis of the image of hip-hop culture in China’s media representation and self-construction,in news reports,mass media reproduce hip-hop culture through genre selection,thematic framing,agenda setting,narrative type and tendency infiltration:he overall appearance of the positive fashion trend overshadows its negative character.With the development of social media and the promotion of business,the self-constructed image of hip-hop culture has also entered the public’s vision.The diversity of hip-hop culture and the negative qualities that the mass media try to cover up have been revealed,issues such as drug use,fights and sexism are also emerging,in contrast to the image of hip-hop culture reproduced by the mass media,at the same time,it also enriches and completes the image of hip-hop culture in China.The author believes that due to the strong attraction of subculture to teenagers,the mass media should comprehensively and profoundly reproduce hip-hop culture in their reports,report the negative aspects of hip-hop culture and timely guide public opinion,so as to influence the values of teenagers,at the same time,hip-hop culture should also complete its own purification.It can retain the fight against injustice and ugliness in hip-hop spirit,but it cannot only pick up the dross on the surface and pollute the social and cultural environment.This study studies hip hop culture from the perspective of media reproduction,which to some extent fills in the gaps in this research field and enriches the research on hip hop culture and media reproduction.However,there are still some deficiencies,so as to improve the research in the future.
