Topic-based teaching is an attempt in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language based on a mature theoretical system and rich teaching experience in many countries and disciplines.After absorbing and drawing on the outstanding achievements of predecessors,it has developed its own thematic mode with a unique discipline style of teaching Chinese as a second language.Based on the theories of constructivism,meaningful learning,multiple intelligences and the zone of proximal development,the model integrates teaching contents into resources,and determines major themes,sub-themes and minor themes based on the principle that students’ learning interests can be mobilized,learning needs can be met,and students’ daily life is closely related.The themes should be hierarchical and relevant.After that,through explaining and practicing meaningful teaching contents and completing classroom activities,students’ speech skills,Chinese level,cultural awareness and communicative ability will be cultivated and improved.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is an introduction,including the source of topic selection,research content,research purpose and significance,research approaches and methods.The second part is a summary of the research related to the topic selection,including the research on topic teaching and topic-based Chinese teaching mode.The third part is related theoretical research.The fourth part is a study on the application of this model in Keats School in Kunming,including feasibility analysis and overall design ideas.Among them,the overall design is discussed from six aspects: teaching objectives,teaching materials,teaching forms and curriculum,theme selection and design,teaching contents and teaching activities.The fifth part is the specific teaching design with leisure as the theme.The sixth partr is the teaching evaluation of leisure topics.The last part is enlightenment from the application of thematic teaching mode in Keats School of Kunming.
