In recent years, with the deepening of the relationship between China and South Africa, the bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and other fields has gradually increased. On the aspect of education, the popularity of Chinese teaching and learning is also increasing in this country. As one of the five major Confucius Institutes in South Africa, the Confucius Institute at the University of Johannesburg(UJCI)has the responsibility to share Chinese culture with the citizens and to cultivate local competent people with Chinese talents.Due to the irresistible reasons, there are still many problems existing in the Chinese courses offered by the University of Johannesburg.By doing survey, classroom observing, literature searching and case analyzing,I received solutions to resolve the problems of the Intermediate Chinese course and took them all into practice. After one semester,by analyzing the teaching report and the feedback from students,I finally confirmed that the problems have basically been solved. This thesis is divided into four chapters. From a brief description of the research background to the discovery of the problems and the use of solutions and to the analysis of the feedback, and finally put forward suggestions such as "changing the current teaching method" and "adjusting the teaching content" at the end of the thesis. The results of the research will be presented as a report. And it is also intended to improve the teaching of intermediate Chinese course at the University of Johannesburg and other Chinese language classes in South Africa, and to promote the development of UJCI in the future as well.
