Tai Jingnong’s Writing Of Ancient Chinese Literary History And Conception Of Literary History

Tai Jingnong is a famous scholar,writer,and calligrapher in the 20 th century.As early as the 1920 s,he was famous for the creation of local literature.After he went to Taiwan in 1946,he taught in the Chinese Department of Taiwan University for more than 20 years,and made remarkable achievements in the study of classical literature and calligraphy.Tai Jingnong’s "History of Chinese Literature" is unique in its conception of literary history and research methods.It simultaneously embodies the writer’s idiosyncrasies and renders the characteristics of Chinese classical literature into modern expressions.For a long time,the study of Tai Jingnong has mostly focused on his novel writing or academic history,whereas there is relatively little attention allocated to the achievements of his classical literature research.This article takes Tai Jingnong’s "History of Chinese Literature" as the research object,analyzing its conception of literary history and research methods with a view to revealing the unique value of his literary history writing.Apart from the introduction,this article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter analyzes the literary concepts held by Tai Jingnong in the history of literary writing.He makes trade-offs on materials,judges the literary value of his works,and distinguishes between "literature" and "non-literature" in the writing of literary history.Through these,we know: there are two key points in Tai Jingnong’s literary concept: "truth" and "beauty".Tai Jingnong has a clear literary concept and he practices it in his literary history research and writing.The second chapter discusses Tai Jingnong’s research on Buddhist translation literature.Tai Jingnong wrote a chapter "Buddhist Translation Literature",which comprehensively summarized the main translators and translated works of Buddhist translation from the Han Dynasty to the Sui Dynasty,which shows that he attaches great importance to Buddhist translation literature.He analyzes it in the context of historical culture.The third chapter discusses the folk song research of Tai Jingnong.In the early days,Tai Jingnong personally collected and sorted out the Huainan folk songs in his hometown.He consciously summarized the methods and principles of collecting and sorting out folk songs.He developed new inspiration and discussed some issues related to folk songs.Tai Jingnong’s collection and sorting of folk songs has a profound impact on his literary research,broadening the horizontal field and depth of literary research.In his literary research,he can simultaneously take care of the value of anthropology and sociology,and at the same time enable the source and development of literature.The fourth chapter is an analysis of some specific issues in Tai Jingnong’s "History of Chinese Literature".Tai Jingnong divides stages of literary history,utilizes comparative research methods in writing,and expresses personal temperament in writing as a poet.From these perspectives,this chapter analyzes Tai Jingnong’s conception of literary history,and investigates the characteristics and value of Tai Jingnong’s "History of Chinese Literature".
