With the rapid development of science and technology,the international medical communication has become more and more frequent,in which the English-Chinese translation of medical texts plays an extremely important role.The essence of medical texts translation is the cross-cultural communication of medical information,which aims to introduce advanced foreign medical technology and experience and to promote the exchange of medical technology and culture between different countries and nations.As an emerging technology,3D printing has been widely used in medicine in recent years.Written by Deepak M.Kalaskar,3D Printing in Medicine is a monograph introducing the basic knowledge of 3D printing as well as its application in medicine.In this case,the translation of this book can provide reference for Chinese medical workers.As the core part of the whole book,Chapter 4-6 mainly introduce the present situation and prospect of 3D printing in medicine,consequently,they are chosen as the subjects of translation practice and research.In this report,possible problems in E-C medical translation and corresponding translation skills are discussed with the guidance of Newmark’s Text Typology theory.This translation report is composed of four chapters.Chapter One is the task description,discussing the background and features of the source text as well as the significance of the translation practice.Chapter Two introduces the translation process,including the preparatory work before translation,the planning of the task and quality control during the translation process.Chapter Three analyzes some typical cases in terms of the lexical problems and translationese in medical translation,and the translation of chart titles in medical texts.Chapter Four summarizes the translation task,and the experience the author acquires.Finally,this report concludes that medical texts belong to informative function texts,which aims at outputting effective information.When translating medical texts,relevant translation techniques can be rationally used under the guidance of Newmark’s Text Typology Theory to make the target text fluent and readable.
