Reading Circle,is a student-centered,Autonomous Learning and Cooperative Learning as one of the reading activities.This teaching model is able to advance the teaching current situation of the fragmentation of textbook interpretation and the teaching of teacher-led knowledge transfer.Under the background of the New Curriculum Reform,scholars still pay much attention to English reading teaching in junior high school.With the rise of the interpretation of English reading literacy,study on English reading teaching presents the movement of a hundred of schools of thought contends.However,the application of Reading Circle teaching model in China,particularly the study of junior high school students,is still in the primary stage.The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of this teaching model in English reading teaching in junior high school.This thesis mainly includes a theoretical review of Reading Circle teaching model and its practical application in junior high school English reading teaching.This thesis conducts Reading Circle teaching model to the English reading teaching in junior high school,and tries to answer the following questions:(1)What effect does Reading Circle teaching model exert on the junior high school students’ English reading achievement?(2)What effect does Reading Circle teaching model exert on the junior high school students’ English reading anxiety?(3)What effect does Reading Circle teaching model exert on the junior high school students’ English self-regulated learning ability?In order to answer the above,the researcher chose the No.10 Junior High School located in Wan Bailin District of Taiyuan City,and two parallel classes in the Grade 8 for 16 weeks,42 students in the experimental class,42 students in the control class and the experimental class adopted Reading Circle teaching model,the control class adopted the traditional Presentation Practice Production teaching model.Before the experiment,the previous results illustrated that the English reading achievements of the two classes were basic at the same level.The researcher randomly selected the Class 1 as the experimental class and the Class 4 as the control class,the researcher used questionnaires and test papers as the research tools.During the experiment,the pre-test paper and the post-test paper were used in two classes to study the effect of this model on the students English reading achievements.At the same time,in terms of questionnaires,they are presented that the model has some influence on the foreign language reading anxiety and English self-regulated learning ability of junior high school students.After the analysis of the test papers and questionnaires,the researcher got the following research results: Reading Circle teaching model is helpful to improve the English reading achievements of junior high school students.Meanwhile,Reading Circle teaching model can alleviate the English reading anxiety of junior high school students.In addition,Reading Circle teaching model can also improve the self-regulated learning ability of junior high school students.Therefore,the final conclusion of this experiment can answer the three questions that presented before the experiment.Although there are some unavoidable deficiencies in the process of this experimental study,the author still hopes that this study can start from the English reading class and build the platform for students to discuss and communicate through Reading Circle teaching model.In addition,Reading Circle teaching model can pour attention into the skills and qualities of students lifelong learning development,cultivate the junior high school students reading literacy and present some unique insights for the English teaching peers.
