In recent years,Cambodia’s Chinese language education has developed vigorously,the contribution of volunteer Chinese teachers is particularly prominent.The Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education(formerly known as“Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban”)selects more than 300 volunteer Chinese language teachers around China to teach in Cambodia.But,the problem of cultural readjustment faced by volunteers after returning to China lacks sufficient attention and detailed research by relevant departments.This article takes the 2016-2018 volunteer Chinese language teachers in Cambodia as the research object and focuses on the continuity of the cross-cultural adaptation theory which is called cultural readjustment after returning,expanding the research fields and research perspectives of the cross-cultural adaptation theory.The introduction part includes research background and research status,research significance and research methods.Combining the research results of cross-cultural adaptation related topics and the comparison of the geographical environment,humanities and customs,social life,and language characteristics between China and Cambodia,it clarifies the fact that volunteer Chinese teachers in Cambodia face the problem of cultural readjustment after returning to China.The first chapter is about cross-cultural adaptation and social psychology related theories,expounding the theories of cross-cultural adaptation,reverse cultural shock,cultural readjustment after returning,social psychology and cultural psychology.The second chapter is the analysis of the results of the questionnaire survey on cultural readjustment of volunteer Chinese teachers in Cambodia after returning.It is a more comprehensive and systematic description of the overall situation of cultural readjustment of volunteer Chinese teachers in Cambodia after returning from 2016 to 2018.Through comparative research,it is found that the working time of volunteer Chinese teachers in Cambodia is positively correlated with the time of cultural readjustment after returning to China;the degree of volunteers’ attention to the country during Cambodian period and the psychological readiness for returning home is negatively correlated with the time of cultural readjustment after returning to China;“Social interpersonal relations”,the gap between “personal identity and belonging” and the expected value of the individual before returning home,and the changes in “values and attitudes towards life” are the psychological discomforts generally felt by volunteer Chinese teachers after returning.The third chapter is the analysis of the results of interviews in order to analyze the reasons for their cultural readjustment performance after returning.It is concluded that volunteers returning Chinese teachers are faced with the gap in psychological identity caused by the change of personal identity,difficulties in interpersonal communication,job selection and employment;inadaptability to changes in infrastructure construction and services brought about by rapid domestic development.The fourth chapter based on the results of comprehensive questionnaires and interview analysis,starting from the macro level of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and the micro level of Cambodian school as well as the volunteer families and their own,targetedly proposed effective countermeasures for cultural readjustment of volunteer Chinese teachers in Cambodia after returning.
