| With the boom of foreign trade in China,there is been a growing demand for foreign language talent in various fields.As for secondary vocational school students aiming at seeking job opportunities,it’s utmost important for them to possess a satisfactory ability in business English communication which plays a crucial role in the curriculum system of business English offered at secondary vocational schools.Featured by practicability and market-guided nature,secondary vocational education requires secondary vocational school students’ core professional competence as well as the capability of applying the knowledge they learn to their work.It’s clearly stated in the teaching objective for business English majors enrolled by secondary vocational schools that students should have a good mastery of English communicative ability and business knowledge which they can use to communicate with foreign businessmen.Thus,it’s necessary to launch a research on the current teaching situation of oral business English at secondary vocational schools.Considering facts that teachers may neglect students’ interest and specific English level in oral English teaching activities,various teaching activities are needed to be appropriately carried out in an effort to effectively enhance the in-class participation and learning effect of secondary vocational school students.Guided by the teaching standards for business English majors attending secondary vocational schools,this paper takes the students from four secondary vocational schools located at three provinces that offer courses related to oral business English as the research object,and conducts a survey on oral business English learning among secondary vocational school students on the basis of output hypothesis,constructivism and competency-based theory.The survey finds that the current teaching problems include inadequate teaching process design,oral English teaching not featuring vocational education,irrational setting of classroom tasks or activities,lack of an oral business English learning atmosphere,and faculty’s business English expertise to be improved.After analyzing the causes of the problems,feasible suggestions are provided: optimizing faculty’s pre-class preparations,featuring vocational education in oral English teaching,optimizing faculty’s oral business English classroom teaching,optimizing the business English learning environment,and improving secondary vocational faculty’s business English expertise.The aim of this paper is to help secondary vocational teachers scientifically create a business English learning atmosphere and conduct student-centered oral teaching to effectively elevate the oral business English proficiency of secondary vocational students. |
