The cross-relation points out the phenomenon of voice organization with different voices, conflicts, dissonance, and tonal relationships. As a creative technique commonly used in the Renaissance,it is especially common in polyphonic music genres.By clarifying the conceptual definition, morphological characteristics, classification and application methods of the cross-relation,this thesis takes the time development line as the context, and selects the madrigal works of Italy and the English as the main analysis objects, focusing on the application of the cross-relation in the madrigal genre of the Renaissance.Through the case analysis of composers’ creative ideas and works in different periods,it reveals the influence of the creative thinking of "crossing" on modern music in the 20 th century. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter will summarize the cross-relation from two aspects: conceptual combing and appearance.Clarify the current theoretical position of the cross-relation in the academic world, propose the relevance of the cross-relation and the "diagonal relation" in the traditional modal harmony category, and explain the removal of the cross-relation involved in Musica Ficta.Chapters 2 to 3 are the central part of this article. The second chapter summarizes the main position of the cross relationship in the actual work, and classifies the two-note presentation form that satisfies the cross-relation.Focusing on the level of madrigal lyrics, discussing the connection between lexical drawing and the setting of cross-relationships,and proposing cross-relationships that emphasize the meaning of lyrics, segmentation of phrases, and enhance the continuity of music. Then,in Chapter 3,we focus on analyzing the practice of cross-relationships in Italian madrigal and English madrigal genres.Based on the analysis of notation examples,we summarize the composer’s application concepts of cross-relation,and explore the creative characteristics and madrigal genres of cross-relation in different periods.Composer writing style and other issues. The last chapter is the enlightenment of the cross-relation to later composers. It analyzes the continuation of the cross relationship between the Classical and Romantic periods after the Renaissance, and summarizes the creative thinking of "cross" for the enlightenment and thinking of new music in the 20 th century. The continuation of this composition method since the Renaissance and its influence on the creative thinking of avant-garde composers.
