With the increasing scale of opening up to the outside world and the accelerating process of globalization,English is playing an increasingly important role.Parents and students are paying more attention to English,especially spoken English.However,the current situation of spoken English teaching in junior high schools in China is not optimistic,and there are many problems.To solve these problems,this paper conductes a research study on the teaching of spoken English in junior high schools and identify the deep-seated reasons to the problems.Meanwhile,this paper will give suggestions to these problems.This paper bases on Krashen’s hypothesis and Swain’s output hypothesis.This research takes a junior high school in Xuzhou,Jiangsu Province as the research object,which aims to know the current situation of spoken English teaching in Xuzhou.The research studies the current situation of spoken English teaching in junior high school by questionnaire,interviewing and classroom observation.And it analyzes the reasons behind the problems.It also puts forward several reasonable suggestions.According to these measures,students will alter the concept of spoken English.Spoken English teaching will be improved and Class can truly become the main position for students to improve their oral English.By literature study and data analysis,this paper analyzes and summarizes the current situation of spoken English teaching in Xuzhou from teachers and students respectively and identify problems,including poor teaching design,single teaching method,single materials,students laying particular stress on grammar and vocabulary,lacking of learning methods and Chinese thought patterns.At the same time,the paper gives the reasons for the problems.Firstly,teachers are not paying attention to spoken English and some English teachers have insufficient professional literacy.Besides,students have a dull learning environment and lack of proper instruction.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions.It includes optimizing the spoken English testing system,creating a spoken English learning environment,changing educational concepts and developing the cooperation between families and schools.
